Drawing What You Love

Recently I've been teaching a student of mine in drawing. It's been a joy to teach him and in some ways it's made me a better artist. I've encouraged him to keep a small sketchbook in the car in case he finds himself with some down time parked somewhere. I also told him to keep one on his person, in case he finds himself standing in line. Practicing everyday or as often as he can is great but I told him to find something he likes to draw, like a fictional made-up character. By drawing something he loves he'll get better at applying the traits of that character to another made up one. The more fired up one is about drawing, the better the sketches will turn out. Passion makes a big difference and that's...one to grow on.
